She's just so beautiful. So wounded.
After being shuffled from one foster home to another growing up, Lena Benton dreamt of finding her prince charming. Beautifully Wounded The Beaumont Brothers Book 1 edition by Susan Griscom Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Susan Griscom is a new author, just discovered, and I really like her style of writing. Her beautifully crafted characters come to life on the pages pulling you into their dramatic lives. I LOVE Jackson and Lena and their story gives love and romance new meaning.
Jackson and his brother Brodie inherited a bar and house from their uncle in Northern California. The way they love and respect each other and carry on with their lives, each bringing what's necessary to keep the business alive, is wonderful. Jackson and Brodie are also talented musicians and part of the success of the bar is due to their band. When Lena stops in, obviously wounded, Jackson steps in unable to resist helping her, as his naturally protective demeanor rises again.
Beautifully Wounded is a terrific book that grabs you emotionally and I highly recommend it! I was so taken, in fact, with Brodie that I had to immediately read his story in the sequel, Beautifully Used. Brodie and Gabrielle are a force unto themselves. Wow is all I can say about the Beaumont brothers! Don't miss these.
Kudos Ms. Griscom! I will definitely be reading your other books.
This is still currently free on for any kindle owner. A very good deal as it is a full length stand alone. Finally, an author who shows a man who is sexy with kindness, loyal, funny, successful and not a manwhore! It is so rare to see as everyone wants the bad boy these days. Jackson is a man after my own heart as he has such a gentle, soft heart that is drawn to creatures in need. His brother, Brodie, run a bar together and their relationship is playful and so cool. Polar opposites these 2 are though. Jackson wants to be in a committed relationship and willing to wait for that other part of him. Brodie was hurt in the past by Beth and sleeps with someone new every chance he gets.
Lena is escaping from her abusive husband, Troy. With this massive Adrenalin rush, she flees with blood n her hands not sure if the man she left behind is dead or alive. She winds up staggering into Jackson's bar and he immediately feels the pull toward her. Some may feel things come together too fast because he takes her into his protection straight away but I felt it helped to make it a lighter read. This could have easily been so much darker than what it was due to the subject matter. I was not let down and was pleased with the amount of hesitancy verses attraction. I was surprised that Jackson had went to school for law only because it appeared that doctor would have suited it better. He always seemed to be nursing something back to health at different stages in his life.
The book had a nice ending that left me happy but because it sets you up for Brodie and Gabby's story we do not get an epilogue. I wanted to see Lena and Jackson later down the road. This books violence is minimal and too dark and the sex is not overly graphic either, so I think most would find it enjoyable so long as you are not wanting a lot of trust issues and sexual conflict that often follows abuse. Her husband Troy was a very controlling, oppressive man who made her totally at his mercy. Thank god Lena was lucky and strong enough not to stay in the destructive marriage a full year before she used circumstances to make her move. Enjoy!
There are very view women involved in a domestic abuse situation who get to just walk away unscathed; she most likely is scarred in someway. Her scars may be unseen, but mentally raw; or her body may be bruised, with deliberate cuts, broken bones, not necessarily healed as they should have been.
Anyone who has never been in an abusive situation can behind to imagine any such. They question, why didn't she walk away; why on earth would anyone in their right mind stay for any such ugliness, many times when the abuse has taken place in front of her child of children?
The thing of it is, the abuser is mentally unbalanced, the abused is same & scared beyond reason. Like the young woman in this story, she knows her time to live is running out, but the sane mind does not want to believe the ugliness that her life could be so meaningless.
The storyline is well written, the characters of the abused & the abuser true to form. The kindness of the brothers was a lifesaver; it doesn't happen that way very often, but definitely good reading material.
Good read. Enjoy.
Lena has been married for about one year, but in that time she's learned some awful unspeakable things about her husband. It is eventually to the point that she doesn't have a friend she can turn to in a desperate time of need. Relying solely on her own strength and quick thinking, one night she learns what she is capable of. Hurt bad, and in need of putting some distance between her and her abusive husband, Lena ends up a few hours out of town. Seeking some refuge & recuperation, Lena ends up in Jackson's bar.
Almost straight away Jackson can see that this woman is in rough shape. He offers her the vacant guest housing at he & his brother's place. With plenty of hesitation on Lena`s part, she eventually agrees. If she stays hidden, whoever she's running from won't catch up with her. Slowly building up some trust between them, Lena can start coming back into herself.
I appreciated that the book had a strong beginning, because without that the story would crumble. The timeline of the love story doesn't add up. With all the emotional scarring & baggage, Lena wouldn't be so open to trusting again. Aside from Jackson`s heady pursuit of her, he is overly generous, patient & willing for Lena to come out of her shell again. And when her ex tracks her down suddenly, will Lena be able to take her newfound wit with her and still be able to trust in Jackson to take care of her?
I enjoyed this book and would recommend it. It saddens me very much, to know, what one person can do to someone they supposedly love. This is a story about one woman's escape from abuse, and her journey in learning to trust again. I an looking forward to readind the next book in this series. This book is complete, no cliffhanger.
